We had such a great week!  The children made paper gingerbread men, measured to see who was bigger the gingerbread man or the children, went on a gingerbread man hunt and got to hear the story "Gingerbread Baby" read by Mrs. St. Pierre and a special guest!
Here's a peek!

Hello everyone!

Next week is Gingerbread Week in the preschool!  We will be engaging in many activities with the theme of Gingerbread!  That being said, I would like to end our week by decorating a gingerbread cookie.  I realize that we need to limit our sweets, but I thought this would be a fun activity for the children.  Please let me know if you do not want your child to decorate a cookie or if there are any restrictions in food.  If I do not hear from you I will go ahead with the cookies!

Thanks so much and have a wonderful Holiday!

The Three Little Pigs Week!

This has been such a fun week!  We listened to the story of The Three Little Pigs and then acted it out! We made masks and built houses out of straw, sticks and bricks to see which was the strongest!  Then we tried to blow them down!  We even had a wolf try to blow them down!  Here's a peek!

"Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning.  But for children, play is serious learning.  Play is really the work of childhood."

Hello everyone!

I wanted to let you know some of the great things we are learning here at school!  We use Imagine It for our language arts program. Now that we have been in school for a couple of months, we are beginning to explore our letters and are beginning to learn some basic sight words!  Here are some of the objectives we have been learning:

  • We are analyzing sentence pairs to determine which has more words and which has fewer words.
  • We are learning that letters can be capital or small.
  • We are learning that names are special words made from one capital letter and small letters.
  • We are identifying and describing the functions of common classroom objects.

What is something you can do at home??

READ to your child everyday!  Listening to stories is a very important part of becoming a good reader!  So, cuddle up with your child, a good book and enjoy!

Happy Halloween!
We wrapped up this week with Pumpkin Day!  We read the story "Go Away Big Green Monster" by Ed Emberley and created our own Big Orange Monster!  We had a pumpkin painted on our hand or face! We used beads to make a pumpkin decoration and we played in pumpkin slime!  It was a fun day!  Here is a peek at some of our activities!

Look what we have been up too!
Our sensory table is full of October themed items!

We worked on some fine motor skills by hammering tees into a pumpkin!

We used tweezers and searched for hidden spiders!
And we conducted our own experiment to determine what fall items sink or float!  Did you know that if an acorn has a "hat" it will float, but it will sink if it doesn't have a "hat"?

The 3 year olds painted the tree while the 4 year olds made the apples!  Great team work!

We had a wonderful time celebrating Dot Day!
First, we heard the story

"The Dot" By Peter H. Reynolds

This is a story about a little girl who does not feel she is an artist.  With some encouragement from her art teacher to "Just make a mark and see where it takes you."  Vashti makes a dot on her paper and that dot takes her on a journey of discovering the unmasked creativity in herself!  I love this story!  It is so important to remember that we all have a creative spirit and sometimes we need just a little encouragement to set it free!

Next we made Dots, of course!

The 4 year old's also matched lettered dots on their apple tree!  Some children matched uppercase to uppercase while others matched uppercase to lowercase letters!  I guess our apple trees are now dot trees!
